Ocean Rain Chinese Dancers

Ocean Rain Chinese Dancers, former Chinese Folk Dance team, was founded in November of 2002 with great supports received from Chinese Scholars and Students Association in Victoria (CSSAVC). Most of the first members were students at University of Victoria. Ocean Rain Chinese Dancers has  welcomed the wonderful Lotus Dancers, who have been actively promoting Chinese Cultures for over twenty years, to join the dance Troupe in 2008. As Chinese, we take great pride in our origin and culture, and would like to take advantage of our being in Canada to introduce our culture, promote Chinese-Canadian cultural exchanges, and enrich the life of and strengthen the bonding among Victoria Chinese community.

Chinese folk dance has a long history of more than 5000 years. The Chinese people are composed of 56 ethnic groups in total, and the unique ethnic culture of each is an integral part of the Chinese culture, and every ethnic group has their expressive singing and dancing arts. We hope that we could introduce our folk and classical dance to people all over Canada and even the world.

Ever since my first Chinese dance class when I was five, I fell in love with all of the beautiful gestures and moves. It became my goal to spread Chinese dancing arts when I came to Victoria. I feel very blessed to have such hard working dancers who are willing to put sweats into practicing and learning our own dancing.

Vivian is someone that you have to scratch your head so hard to guess her real age. She is amazingly beautiful and kind. It is such a blessing to have her in our group and thank you for making us all beautiful. Vivian, you rock.

Ling Shao

Academic: MSc, BSc

A couple years of extensive Ballet training in her early ages have enable Ling to contribute a lot into our dance troupe. Ling, who is working full-time, a mother of a lovely daughter, and a devoted wife, is one of our strongest members. Here is Just a brief introduction from us since she is too humble to do it herself.:
